Why This Dog Goes To Church Every Week Broke Me Down. I Wish He Could Understand.

It’s not every day you’ll see a dog in church, but in the small town of San Donaci near Brindisi, Italy, it’s a regular occurrence. A 12 year-old German Shepherd named Tommy goes to Mass nearly every day and sits patiently by the altar. He goes there out of love, he is just waiting for his master. But the real story behind his reason will break your heart

The reason Tommy attends Mass at this church is because it’s where he last saw his owner.

Now, he diligently waits for his master to come back. He curls up by the altar to wait for Maria.

Tommy is there every day and waits patiently through all of the church services, keeping a silent watch and waiting for her.

The loyalty and love dogs possess is unlike anything else in the universe. Nothing breaks my heart more than to see a dog like this in mourning.

  1. I love that the priest lets the dog be there! I think German Shepherds have this kind of loyalty. I am sorry for the dog’s loss, but I am glad he or she is allowed to be there where it is a comfort for him/her. Waiting is the dog’s calling now. If the dog wasn’t allowed inside, he or she would be restless and suffer. By being able to wait there, the dog has a solid purpose and a routine.

It is incredibly kind for the them to let the dog be there.

  2. watch the movie “hachi – a dog’s tale” – similar situation. true story. very well done movie, too. but be prepared – watch with at least one box of kleenex.

  3. Thanks so much for following my blog. I have a soft spot for animals and this is like, the third time I’m reading something like this about a dog’s loyalty: one about Hachi and another of when the owner killed the dog because he thought it ate his baby, but instead it protected someone from trying to kill the baby. Dogs are so amazing :’I I’ll never be able to handle this…crying right now D:

    1. That’s that main reason why I made this blog. I don’t know but I really love dogs, they are lovable and loyalty. I prefer date a dog this valentines day than my gf, maybe because I think that my dog will never leave me, no matter what, no matter what the reason may be. Thank you Jo, I really appreciate your comment. 🙂

  4. Heartbreaking but also heartwarming that they let the dog stay. Sometimes we don’t give dogs enough credit for having emotions and feelings
